Our premium security course in Sydney starts with an information session, followed by an application and a pre-security guard training assessment to ensure you are well-equipped to complete the security guard training course. The security guard training course begins with a highly interactive and engaging online learning program to give you the knowledge you need to complete the face-to-face classroom security guard training. The face-to-face component of the security guard training course is scheduled for two weeks, over 10 days. We offer security guard training during the week or over the weekend if that suits you better.

Once you have completed the CPP20218 Certificate II in Security Operations , you can then apply for a NSW Security Licence, which entitles you to perform security guard work in NSW. Once licensed, you have many career options including static guarding at shopping centres or work sites, crowd control at venues or hotels, or concierge work at office buildings.

To enrol in the NSW Security Licence Course, CPP20218-Certificate II in Security Operations, you need to meet the following pre-qualification criteria:

This course will enable you to apply for a Security Licence, Class 1A Licence to become a Security Officer.

  1. Age: You must be 18 years of age or over.
  2. Citizenship or Residency: You must be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or hold a visa permit sponsored by a Master security licence holder or a visa for a skilled occupation aligned to the activities authorized by the intended licence.

  3. Language Proficiency: You must have a reasonable level of proficiency in the English language, as security work involves communication with clients, colleagues, and members of the public.
  4. National Police Check: You must provide evidence of a current National Police Check that is no more than three months old.
  5. ID Verification: You must provide evidence of your identity, such as a passport, driver’s license, or birth certificate.
  6. Unique Student Identifier (USI): You must have a valid USI, which is a nationally recognized reference number that gives you access to your training records.
  7. First Aid Course: You must complete a HLTAID011-Provide First Aid Course, prior to enrolment of the CPP20218-Certificate II in Security Operations.

The security guard course takes approximately 10 weekdays or 5 weekend sessions to complete, though pre-course learning could potentially span up to 5 weeks of online study.

According to that, if any person is not a permanent resident or does not have Australian citizenship, then they must have a visa supported by someone who holds a Master’s security licence, a visa for a job requires skills related to the activities allowed by the licence they want to get. 

However, if you currently have a security licence but do not meet the new visa requirements, you can still keep and renew your licence. However, if your licence expires, is surrendered, revoked, or stops being valid for any other reason, you won’t be able to apply for a new licence afterwards.

No, completing a security guard course does not imply that you can get a security licence in Sydney. However, it is considered a requirement for obtaining the licence. After successfully completing the training, you need to apply for a licence from your relevant authority in the state or territory.

You can get the NSW security licence easily and quickly. You need to follow certain steps for that. 

  • You can apply online by visiting Service NSW. Here, you can attach all the required documents. 
  • Process the payment with SLED. 
  • Next, SLED will provide further information, such as which police station you need to visit for your finger or palm print scanning. 
  • then SLED will verify your background to get information about any crime history. 
  • On successful application, you will receive a Photograph Advice letter. 
  • After that, you will have 60 days in which you need to visit Service NSW to provide your photograph. 
  • Within 10 days, you will receive your licence at your postal address. Also, if your application is rejected, they will send you a letter explaining the reason.
