How much does a NSW Security Licence Cost from NSW Police?
When you apply for a security licence through NSW Police, or renew your existing licence, you can choose to have a one year or a five year licence.

Certain Occupations require a A First Aid Course certificate, of which a Security Guard is one. The certificate HLTAID011-Provide First Aid Course is a pre-requisite for the Security Guard Course.
The First Aid Course can be completed the same day.
Bookings are required for the First Aid Course and it can be completed within the same day at our Multisec Training Rooms in Auburn. A discount is offered for students whom are enrolling to also complete the CPP20218-Certificate II Security Operations

We conduct our security license course over 10 days, upon completion, you will be able to apply for your 1 AC security licence. This licence is for an Unarmed Guard & Crowd Controller. The Course is fully approved by the NSW Police Force’s SLED.

The CPP20218 Certificate II in Security Operations comprises a range of core and elective units that provide a comprehensive understanding of security operations. There are 14 units of competency need to be completed, to qualify for the NSW security licence certificate, including the pre-requisite First Aid Certificate
These units are:
- CPPSEC2101 Apply effective communication skills to maintain security.
- CPPSEC2102 Apply legal and procedural requirements to work effectively within a security team.
- CPPSEC2103 Apply WHS, emergency response and evacuation procedures to maintain security.
- CPPSEC2104 Apply risk assessment to select and carry out response to security risk situations.
- CPPSEC2105 Provide quality services to a range of security clients.
- CPPSEC2106 Protect self and others using basic defensive techniques.
- CPPSEC2107 Patrol premises to monitor property and maintain security.
- CPPSEC2108 Screen people, personal effects, and items to maintain security.
- CPPSEC2109 Monitor and control access and exit of persons and vehicles from premises.
- CPPSEC2110 Monitor and control individual and crowd behaviour to maintain security.
- CPPSEC2111 Apply security procedures to manage intoxicated persons.
- CPPSEC2112 Apply security procedures to remove persons from premises.
- CPPSEC2113 Escort and protect persons and valuables.
The pre-course learning for the Security Guard Course can be completed online and can take up to five weeks, However, you are in control of this and could, provided you reduce the length of time you take to do the pre-learning, which of course if self-paced, to as little as 3 weeks. This includes a week of pre-learning and 2 weeks face to face.
Prior to enrollment in the CPP20218 Certificate II in Security Operations, prospective students will undergo an LLN (Language, Literacy, and Numeracy) Test. This assessment evaluates your pre-course learning, as well as your language, literacy, and numeracy skills. It aims to gauge your understanding and interpretation of everyday situations and work-related tasks. Factors such as prior experience and training can significantly impact your ability to read, write, communicate, and perform calculations. The LLN Test consists of tasks and quizzes that need to be completed before attending the in-person security training classes.
By conducting this assessment, we ensure that all students are equipped with the necessary foundational skills to succeed in the Security Licence course. It allows us to tailor the training program to meet your individual needs and provide the support required for your learning journey.
New Security License courses start every Monday at Multisec Training Rooms in Auburn. The weekday course goes from Monday to Friday.

- You must be at least 18 years of age to apply for a NSW Security Licence and to commence this course.

- You must be an Australian or New Zealand citizen or a permanent Australian resident or a hold a visa that entitles you to work in Australia (other than a student or working holiday visa)
- No criminal history

You must be at least 18 Years of age to become a security guard.
Although there are no specific entry requirements to become a security guard, a good level of education is also an advantage.
Training to be a security guard is not a male dominant occupation, female security guard is becoming a more popular career choice, in recent years there has been a positive shift to the number of females working in the security industry.
A female Security Guard can be a rewarding career choice, women have excellent conflict resolution skills which can aid in situations required for security resolutions. In Fact, many male security officers will say that some of the best security officers they have worked with are female. The reasons for this are many, but include what was just stated, i.e., that they have excellent skills in conflict and resolution management.
Although there are no specific entry requirements to become a security guard, a good level of education is an advantage.
Also, the NSW Police Force and most employers will carry out background checks and although not all criminal charges will rule you out of all security guard jobs, there are certain offenses that will prohibit you from getting your security licence. To be a security guard in NSW, you need a security licence. The most common way of obtaining a security licence in NSW is to apply to the Security Licencing Enforcement Directorate (SLED) for the issue of a licence. You do this via the Service NSW Website. The correct web page for this is easiest found by searching “Apply for an NSW Security Licence” online.
- You must be at least 18 years of age to apply for a NSW Security Licence and to commence this course
- You must provide identification equivalent to 100 points
- The Pre-Course Literacy Assessment assessment must be successfully completed
- The required pre-course volume of learning and training must be completed prior to commencement of face to face training
- You must be an Australian or New Zealand citizen or a permanent Australian resident or a holder of a Visa that entitles you to work in Australia (other than a student or working holiday visa)
- No criminal history
- Requirements from NSW Police Force.
You will also need a copy of a current First Aid Certificate that a Nationally Recognised Training Provider has issued. The copy of your First Aid Certificate must also be certified by a justice of the peace.
The Visa you require must be unlimited to work in Australia, it cannot be a student or working holiday visa.
Or you must be an Australian or New Zealand citizen or a permanent Australian resident.

To get a security licence in Sydney you must first complete a CPP20218-Certificate II Security Operations, pre-qualifications including being 18 years old, a fit and proper person to hold the class of licence, no criminal record.
The security guard course comprises of fourteen (14) units of competency including the prerequisite unit Provide First Aid which must be possessed before you enrol.
Combined with outstanding support both during and after your course, you will be supported to gain the knowledge and qualifications to apply for a Class 1A security licence, to become a security guard.
The candidate sought to hold a Security Licence in NSW must operate as a Security Guard in NSW and be employed by a master licensee, or hold a master licence of their own.
You must also apply to the Security Licence Enforcement Directorate (SLED) for a licence. At the time of applying, you must provide SLED with 100 points of ID, your current first aid certificate and a CPP20218 Certificate II in Security Operations.
