As of 1 June 2023, several important amendments to the NSW Police Class 1AC Security Licence have been introduced specifically for visa holders. These changes aim to ensure all applicants maintain valid visa status while meeting NSW Police and SLED licensing requirements.

For anyone planning to apply for a licence, completing a recognised course such as the Security Licence Course NSW is an essential first step before lodging your application.

New Visa Requirements for NSW Security Licence Applicants

From 1 June 2023, applicants must meet at least one of the following conditions:

✔ Australian citizen
✔ Permanent resident
✔ Visa sponsored by a Master Security Licence holder
✔ Skilled occupation visa aligned with the security activities of the licence

These requirements were introduced to ensure compliance with federal visa regulations and to maintain proper workforce eligibility within the security industry.

Your Security Licence May Not Be Renewed Under New Rules

If you currently hold a valid security licence but do not meet the new visa requirements, you may still:

  • Retain your existing licence
  • Renew it when due

However, you will not be eligible to apply for a new licence if your current licence:

  • Expires
  • Is surrendered
  • Is revoked
  • Ceases to be in force for any other reason

Visa holders should monitor their expiry dates closely and ensure they meet all compliance requirements. If you still need to complete your training, consider enrolling in the Certificate II in Security Operations as early as possible.

Multisec Training continues to provide personalised guidance for eligibility, application, and training pathways.

Course Timeframe for New Changes to Take Effect

SLED has clarified the following:

  • If you apply before 1 June 2023, the new visa rules will not affect your application.
  • Even if your training starts or concludes after 1 June, your application will still be processed under the old rules — as long as your application was submitted before the deadline.

This made early enrolment critical for visa holders working toward a NSW security licence.

New Security Licence Courses Starting Every Monday

To help visa holders meet the application deadline, Multisec Training offered weekly Security Licence Courses starting every Monday from 24 April to 29 May 2023.

This initiative ensured visa holders could:

  • Enrol and complete the security training
  • Lodge their application before 1 June 2023
  • Maintain eligibility under previous SLED requirements

Even now, Multisec continues to support visa applicants through updated courses and guidance.

Deadline for Visa Holders to Complete the Course

All current and prospective security personnel holding visas were strongly encouraged to obtain their licence before 1 June 2023. Missing the deadline could affect future eligibility depending on visa type and regulatory updates.

For assistance with current licensing rules or training requirements, Multisec Training remains committed to guiding visa holders and new applicants through the process.
